External stimulations such as seafloor hydrocarbon seeps have been demonstrated to significantly boost microbial growth; however, the microbial community response has not been fully understood. Here we report a comparative metagenomic study of microbial response to natural hydrocarbon seeps in the Gulf of Mexico. Subsurface sediments (10-15?cm below seafloor) were collected from five natural seep sites and two reference sites. The resulting metagenome sequencing datasets were analyzed with both gene-based and genome-based approaches. 16S rRNA gene-based analyses suggest that the seep samples are distinct from the references by both 16S rRNA fractional content and phylogeny, with the former dominated by ANME-1 archaea (~50% of total) and Desulfobacterales, and the latter dominated by the Deltaproteobacteria, Planctomycetes, and Chloroflexi phyla. We retrospectively studied PD-L1 tumour proportion score and Ki-67 index in pleural biopsies or cytologies from 123 patients (69 lung cancer, 25 mesothelioma, and 29 extrathoracic primary malignancies). Additionally, the impact of C-reactive protein (CRP) and platelet count was also analysed. Median overall survival (OS) after MPE diagnosis was 9 months. OBJECTIVES To assess responsiveness of the Motor Capacities Scale (MCS) in people with tetraplegia who have undergone upper limb reconstructive surgery. SETTINGS Rehabilitation clinics in France. METHODS The MCS is an arm/hand function test with 31 basic tasks, subdivided into four sub-categories (MCS A, MCS B, MCS C, and MCS D). Data were recorded preoperatively and following full completion of the surgical program. The Functional Independence Measure (FIM) and a ten-point numeric scale related to patients' satisfaction with the overall surgical result were included. Data were analyzed using responsiveness measures-the effect size (ES), the standardized response mean (SRM), and the minimal clinically important difference (MCID). RESULTS Twenty-seven participants were included. Fourteen patients underwent unilateral surgery and 13 bilateral surgery. ES and SRM were moderate or good (ES/SRM of MCS B?=?0.76/0.81, ES/SRM MCS C?=?0.68/0.77, and ES/SRM MCS D?=?0.77/0.88). For MCS A and FIM, both SRM and ES showed a small degree of responsiveness. For the MCS total score, the ES value indicated a moderate degree of responsiveness while SRM was excellent. Using rewritable lenses, small lens power corrections could be implemented through a rewriting procedure on the mounted lens without resurfacing or manufacturing and mounting a new lens. More generally, this new effect multiple potential applications in the creation of rewritable optical systems, such as reconfigurable optical networks, index-tunable antireflective coatings and optically rewritable phase gratings.
